4 æm type exploration

In winter 2023, over the course of 10 weeks, I created 40 variations on an album cover for Grimes’ 4æm, as well as a music video. This typography course employed an experimental approach, starting with 12-pt, undistorted font and gradually adding variables like size, emphasis, color, shape, and image. For those 10 weeks, I worked with a single font, Matrix II, to portray a single song. Though my style and sensibilities have changed a lot since this project, I’m still proud of what I produced during this time. This gallery features select favorite works.

At the end of the quarter, I compiled my work into a book. I wanted a textile change that reflects the mood of the piece to be embedded in the structure of the book, so it changes layouts until the book is upside-down, and the reader has to flip “backwards.”
